Bringing Up Baby

Documenting the baby makin' experience. From Trying to Conceive, to Bringing Up Baby, I share all the laughs and all the horror.

I'm Jess, I'm 30 years old, I live in Minneapolis with The Husband, Jack (the girl dog with a boy name), and The Mac -- the person we made. He's pretty much the most awesome human being alive and easily the greatest thing I've ever done.

If you're interested, my primary blog is Scattered Jigsaw Thoughts.

The Husband

I talk about The Husband quite a bit.  And I only refer to him as The Husband.  Because he is an innocent victim of this blog and until he says to me, “Jess, I’d like to be a readily identifiable character on your blog”, I will continue to keep his identity a mystery.  It’s weird, it doesn’t make any sense, but it’s the way I roll.

The Husband really is my better half.  He really is my best friend.  He really is the love of my life.  He is absolutely hilarious, he is smart where I am dumb, kind where I am cruel, patient where I am frantic.  He is my perfect fit.  But this paragraph?  This paragraph is far cheesier than the two of us ever get.  We are more likely to poke fun at each other than whisper sweet nothings.  Our favorite way to spend time is to make each other laugh with our irreverent sense of humor rather than engaging in romantic activities.  And this works for us.

So to summarize — The Husband: a mystery man, a cool dude.

The Mac

Cormac, aka Mac, is pretty much the star of this blog.  The Little Dude was born June 24, 2010, and he’s 15 billion different kinds of awesome.  He filled a hole in my heart I didn’t know I had, gave my life a purpose I didn’t know it was lacking, and brought us more joy than I ever thought possible.

He’s cute.  He’s smart.  He’s hilarious.  He’s a holy terror.  He is Mac the Destroyer and he keeps us on our toes.  I learn something new every day about him, about myself, and about how to keep my house better protected since his mission in life is to tear this place apart.

This crazy little boy makes my heart ache with love.  I am forever trying to hold on to each and every moment with him, wishing time would slow down, but I can’t help but love every new moment that comes along.  He is my heart.

Jack, the girl dog with a boy name

Jack is our golden retriever.  She is a sweet, beautiful, well-behaved dog.  And she is the bane of my existence.  She is fantastic with Mac and I suspect they’ll be great playmates when Mac gets older, but she is the dumbest dog alive and she is afraid of EVERYTHING.  I spend most of my time bitching about her.  Well-trained as she may be, she develops a new fear every single day and I am endlessly frustrated by her.  Oh, and she sheds.  Like…a lot.

Still, she’s one of the best dogs a family could ask for.
