Bringing Up Baby

Documenting the baby makin' experience. From Trying to Conceive, to Bringing Up Baby, I share all the laughs and all the horror.

I'm Jess, I'm 30 years old, I live in Minneapolis with The Husband, Jack (the girl dog with a boy name), and The Mac -- the person we made. He's pretty much the most awesome human being alive and easily the greatest thing I've ever done.

If you're interested, my primary blog is Scattered Jigsaw Thoughts.

You guys, you wouldn’t know this by the amount of time I’ve spent thinking about Christmas-related things, but I’m actually a total grinch come Christmas time.  Between agonizing over the right gifts to buy, plotting how to maneuver our way through tricky family waters (as I attempt to put my foot down and pout about wanting Christmas my way or the highway), and stressing over the amount of money spent, I am not the most pleasant person to be around from November to January.

BUT, as I leap from one anxiety attack to another, I still have to accept that Christmas happens and I have a role.

Since Mac was born, one of my roles is figuring out what gifts to buy him (and what gifts to recommend to others).  The Husband has expressed litte-to-no interest in what items Mac gets to unwrap so I’m the one who thinks about the perfect toys and the necessary clothing items that would be good to give as gifts.

This year, Mac needs more noisy plastic toys like he needs a hole in his head.  I’ve got toys stashed all over the house, rotating items in and out on a monthly basis.  I’m running out of storage.  So this year, I’m really focusing on building up his book collection since a couple of months ago he FINALLY started getting interested in reading books (and if I have to read Baby Bath Time one more time, I’m probably going to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon).

I love Sandra Boynton and of course Dr. Seuss, but what are some other book recommendations you guys might have?  What books do your children want to read over and over?  What books do you find as entertaining as your child does?
