Recently, Mac has been SUPER interested any time I’m cooking something. He lurks around the kitchen and tries to figure out what’s going on. So yesterday I decided to let him help me make some cookies.
I decided to make shortbread cookies because there aren’t any eggs in the recipe. Seemed safest to steer clear of anything that might give him salmonella. Good mothering skills: I haz ‘em.
I gave Mac a bowl with some flour, cornstarch, water and a wire whisk. As I mixed my batter, he mixed his. Then it came time to use the electric mixer (yes, I am the one married person on earth who uses a hand mixer since I didn’t bother to register for a stand mixer) and as I fired it up, I looked at Mac and he started mimicking the sound of the mixer. He stirred with his whisk and imitated the sound of the mixer the entire time I was mixing.
It was the cutest damn thing I’ve ever seen.
Mac wound up covered in flour, the cookies were delicious, and it was one of my favorite afternoons with him.
Man, I love that kid.
