Bringing Up Baby

Documenting the baby makin' experience. From Trying to Conceive, to Bringing Up Baby, I share all the laughs and all the horror.

I'm Jess, I'm 30 years old, I live in Minneapolis with The Husband, Jack (the girl dog with a boy name), and The Mac -- the person we made. He's pretty much the most awesome human being alive and easily the greatest thing I've ever done.

If you're interested, my primary blog is Scattered Jigsaw Thoughts.

Sooo, yeah. I went MIA for a little while.  I wasn’t on vacation or anything, I was just busy trying to get life back together after the holiday craziness.  Oh, and lazy.

We had a super busy Christmas (as I knew we would) but we actually really enjoyed ourselves and Mac was a superstar.  Despite having his schedule turned upside down and missing out on most of his naps, he was a total champ and a complete charmer.  This year he understood that opening presents was cool, and he obligingly “Oooo”ed at most of his gifts.  He was, of course, adorable.  Meanwhile, I’m completely regretting my gift recommendations for him.  What was I thinking suggesting blocks and stacking toys to everyone?  Multiple children play with these toys.  So many pieces have already been lost. Rookie mistake.

It still hasn’t [really] snowed here so The Husband still hasn’t gotten to use one of “our” big Christmas gifts that he bought back in November — the snowblower.  My dad is now insisting that we buy a nice lawnmower as well in hopes that it keeps the grass from growing in the summer.  I continue to hate Minnesota right now.  Seriously? Cold without snow? What’s even the point?

The Husband gave me a Kindle Touch for Christmas and my parents gave us a Kindle Fire. I’m pretty sure we’re done communicating forever since we want to spend 100% of our free time playing with our new electronic best friends.  Healthy marriage right here, folks!

Our New Year’s Eve was pretty crazy.  I spent the morning volunteering, and then spent the rest of the day (and night) in my sweats.  I will say that I did drink champagne at midnight (and…ummm…before then too) so I consider the night a win.  I didn’t kiss my husband at midnight.  We had a friend over.  It would have been weird.  PDA? Gross.  Mac was in bed by 7:30 that night and we didn’t wake him up at midnight. His sleep is no joke — it took us a long time to have a child who sleeps through the night and I’m not about to mess with that.

Mac has a doctor’s appointment today so that I can make sure that his steady diet of raisins and clementines isn’t doing any permanent damage and my 30th birthday is tomorrow, so obviously I will go to sleep tonight and hope for a Groundhog Day situation so that I can put off that milestone birthday indefinitely.

I think that pretty much brings you all up to speed on my life.  Thrilling stuff.  I know.
