Bringing Up Baby

Documenting the baby makin' experience. From Trying to Conceive, to Bringing Up Baby, I share all the laughs and all the horror.

I'm Jess, I'm 30 years old, I live in Minneapolis with The Husband, Jack (the girl dog with a boy name), and The Mac -- the person we made. He's pretty much the most awesome human being alive and easily the greatest thing I've ever done.

If you're interested, my primary blog is Scattered Jigsaw Thoughts.

We don’t eat out very often and when we do, we never order food for Mac.  If we’re eating fast food, we bring it home and he gets his own meal that I throw together for him here.  If we’re at a restaurant, I bring puree pouches, prepared veggies, shredded chicken, crackers — whatever I have on hand to supply a relatively well-rounded meal on-the-go.

Yesterday, though, I just didn’t have it in me.  I didn’t feel like digging through my fridge, cobbling something together, and hoping he’d eat it.  The Husband was going to watch football with friends so he wouldn’t be around for dinner and I decided to use a gift card I got for Chipotle for my own meal.  I had every intention of just sharing my burrito bowl with Mac until I took a look at their kids menu.

I never pay attention to kids menus.  Chicken fingers? Mac and Cheese?  Grilled cheese?  All served with fries?  No thank you.  But Chipotle was different.

Among their options, I noticed a meat quesadilla.  The whole meal only cost $3.75 and came with the quesadilla, beans, rice, tortilla chips (that I ate because I’m a greedy fatty patty), and a juice or milk.  I got him a [naturally raised] pork quesadilla, black beans, brown rice, and a box of organic milk.

He loved it (well, not the milk, but he thought it was cool to be drinking something through a straw, even if he gave me the ‘yuck’ face every time he took a sip), I felt good serving it to him, and I thought the price was very reasonable.

So all this is to say, that if you have a night where you have a couple extra bucks in your pocket and zero desire to prepare a meal, then I highly recommend taking the fam to Chipotle.  Just in case I didn’t love their food enough, now I have a whole new reason to love them!

Oh, and I wasn’t paid to write this.  Please tell me you all snorted at the very idea that Chipotle would pay me to write anything about them.  Although I’ve been singing the praises of Chipotle for the last 13 years, so if they’d like to start paying me, that’d be cool.
